Microsoft Word Within The Home Environment

We all know there are numerous ways in which Microsoft Word can help us in the workplace, but there are also many ways in which Word can help you manage your home life.

Writing Letters

However much you try and avoid it there are times when a phonecall or e-mail is not enough and you are required to put a complaint or query in writing. In such circumstances a handwritten letter just does not create the right impression. There are many letter templates available in Word which can be used as a basis when writing this type of formal letter. Storing your letters electronically also gives you the advantage of being able to keep a record of exactly what was sent without having to laboriously copy everything out or take it to be photocopied.

Details for Housesitting

When you go away on holiday you may well have a friend or neighbour on call to keep an eye on the house in your absence. Often the note you leave them, giving them important imformation and instructions, is little more than an illegible scrawl produced at the last minute as you walk out the door. Microsoft Word can be used to draw up an instruction list containing, for example, the locations of each houseplant and how often they should be watered, and when and what to feed your various pets. A schedule of contact details can also be included providing information of how you can be contacted together with how to get in touch with other services, for example the vet, which may be required. This can be stored on your computer and so easily amended as details change. Also, if you have more than one housesitter, it can be easily copied.

Preparing Invitations

Microsoft Word can also help you with the more fun elements of your life. For example, you can use it to create eyecatching invitations for dinner or birthday parties. With facilities available to scan in photographs and drawings and a vast array of formatting options and font styles to hand it is easy to make your invitations truly unique. For those really big events where people may be travelling from further afield, you can add maps and lists and contact details for accommodation in the area.

Producing Newsletters

There are some people you only get round to contacting at Christmas, by which time you have a whole year’s news to try and fit into one small Christmas card. Microsoft Word is a handy tool which enables you to produce a newsletter which can be put in with the cards. Word has the facilities available to allow you to easily add photographs or even scanned in drawings or documents that your children have created. You can produce a base document as a template and then add personalised messages before printing each one out.

The above are just a few examples of the many ways in which Microsoft Word can enhance your home life, improving the way you communicate with others and helping you stay in touch with family and friends.

It’s been really foggy and stupid lately :P My mom made me go out and practice my driving and it was a big waste of time. I didn’t even come back with any good pictures. See how horrible my life is?!

This morning I ran a 5K race with my friend, but since they’re a slow friend I ran it slow too ;-) Afterwards I took a dip in our freshly fixed hot tub. Needless to say it was awesome.

Well enough about me, how about you guys? Anybody want something for Christmas? I know a couple elves that I could talk into getting you what you want. Even if you’re on the naughty list ;-) Haha, I’m hoping to see a Canon Rebel T1i under my tree for Christmas. Although I don’t have very high hopes for that ever happening…

Friendster or Foe

Millions of fans poured into the streets in celebration late last week, when the social networking megasite Friendster.com was awarded a patent on managing real-life relationships. Until now, relationships have been difficult to maintain – with no effective friendship tool firmly in place. With the Friendster patent, suddenly that task has become a lot less daunting. No longer will the phone break-up suffice; people must now go through Friendster to start and stop any kind of relationship. Friendster executives, knowing what’s best for humankind, have vowed to sue the pants off of any friend who thinks they can manage friends without going through Friendster – this includes every aspect of any friendship, either online or in the living room. On the same day, Friendster announced joint ventures with leading dictionary publishers to officially change the spelling of the word "friend" to "friendster" just to show how serious they are about running your friendships.

This was a rarity for me…I made the same project twice although certainly not with the same pictures. I modge podged pictures off of flickr again for this frame and used some of the same ones and some different ones. The word friends is made with pink rub ons on this frame and there are silver rhinestones…of course :)

Why Are Word Of Mouth Referrals So Important?

Why Are Word Of Mouth Referrals So Important?

Anyone that is looking at advertising, marketing or any other campaign form to encourage consumers to contact them is interested in the most believable type of advertising. They want the consumer to know that what they are saying is real and therefore it should be reason enough to bring that person in. The most powerful method to accomplish it is word of mouth. Why? Trust is the single benefit that comes from word of mouth methods of advertising.

With word of mouth, studies have shown, people simply believe it. Would you trust your friend? Of course! For this reason, any type of business can benefit from effective word of mouth advertising. How to you accomplish this?

You want to encourage your customers that they have something to talk about.

For example, some retail chains have used the method of giving the customer some form of coupon for their next visit and tagging on a second one for their friend. This encourages open communication about the company and draws in the second customer.

How can you do this? Look at what types of lures you currently use to draw people in and double that for their friends. Everyone benefits, especially you with word of mouth benefits.

An Example Of Good Word Of Mouth

Pretty much anyone on the web has heard of Gmail, Google’s powerful email accounts. But did you know that very little money was spent in promoting it?

In fact, the single type of advertising used was that of word of mouth.

If you were lucky enough to get an account, you were given several other accounts to share with those that you wanted to share with. The key here was the fact that unless you were referred by someone, you couldn’t just open a Gmail account.

Pure word of mouth advertising was used.

In turn, this created a buzz and if you didn’t have a Gmail account, you wanted to have one.

Gmail became one of the most in demand accounts to have, with little to no advertising dollars spent on it.

The question is, how can you take this example of word of mouth to the extreme and use it in your own business?

Can you give away a service? A reward for referrals? Or even just provide superior service to your clients so in turn you can deliver to them enough to talk to create a buzz?

Word of mouth, such as Gmail’s example, is powerful and launches small or large businesses into a new world.

If you can use this example in your own business, chances are you can achieve the same success.

Tell A Friend – Speading The Word About Your Web-Site

Tell A Friend – Speading The Word About Your Web-Site

To tell a friend about a product or service you enjoy is to provide your exclusive endorsement. The fact your enthusiasm for any brand or company has germinated into a conversation topic is enough to show the sincerity of your appreciation. Much the same way word of mouth can spread amongst your circle of family and friends, your web site can be sent to thousands of people through an effective, well-implemented tell a friend feature.

In most cases, a link to your tell a friend feature will provide satisfactory results. Placing it in an area where the maximum number of web site visitors can see it will warrant the greatest results possible. Once the link is clicked, a quick and easy to use method for e-mailing or instant messaging the visitors friend should be revealed. The information required to send the recommendation should be as minimized as possible in order to ensure your visitor is not intimidated by the process.

If you possess the expertise or can invest in the necessary web-design services, AJAX enabled features allow users to tell friends about products, services, and web sites without leaving your web site. Similar to the comments areas featured on the popular video sharing site, YouTube, AJAX enabled tell-a-friend features allow the user to enter their friends contact information, send it, and receive a confirmation message without exiting your web site. This can vastly improve the immersive experience and brand recognition generated by your web site.

Once your tell-a-friend feature is installed, you should be patient as you wait for the generation of new traffic. In addition, ensure your existing marketing efforts are generating sufficient entry traffic to cause a residual effect through your new feature. Without an existing base of web site users, your tell-a-friend feature will more than likely not produce the additional traffic you seek.

As a webmaster you know that it would be a huge thing if you could get each and every visitor to ‘tell a friend’ about your web-site. I would signify that for every ‘told friend’ you would be getting a visitor for FREE, better than that, one that had been ‘pre-sold’ because their friend had pre-sold or recommended your site.

A tell-a-friend feature is one of the most effective means for marketing your web site and generating new site traffic. Taking advantage of every potential stream for new network traffic can result in additional exposure and revenue. Do not hesitate to build, institute, and take advantage of a tell a friend feature on your web site.

Word Of Mouth Marketing – Why It Is One Of The Most Effective Form Of Advertising

Word Of Mouth Marketing – Why It Is One Of The Most Effective Form Of Advertising

Word of mouth marketing continues to endure as the most effective form of advertising. Sharing enthusiasm with a friend or loved one carries more weight and sincerity than any form of marketing can provide. This is the reason so many businesses seek to spur the natural discussion of their products and services.

Research has shown that products and services, including web sites, that present an emotional connection to a consumer are those most likely to succeed at word of mouth marketing. If you can associate a high-impact emotion with your web sites presentation, it is a great way to inspire word of mouth advertising amongst your potential customers. Consider the gamut of possibilities: sympathy, sadness, delight, shock, surprise, intrigue. A bevy of possibilities exist for those seeking to incite an emotional response from their web site visitors.

Creating such a presentation requires multimedia impact. Technologies such as Flash and streaming video can help to create an effective method for an emotional impact. Turn your attention towards effective visuals rather than sound in order to ensure you do not intrude on user preference. Many site visitors do not desire to hear sounds they did not request upon entering your site.

If you cannot create an emotionally impactful presentation, consider inciting word of mouth by inviting user participation. Creating insightful news and information using a blog is one way to inspire both a sense of community and inspire word of mouth marketing. If a user feels enfranchised by your blog, they will not only spread their enthusiasm via word of mouth, they will also return to your site again and again.

Blog comments can be used to gather competitive intelligence that can lead to further word of mouth interaction. Once you begin to understand the preferences and expectations of your users, you can tailor your web site presentation and marketing to suit their interests. This will lead to greater interaction and a consistent, prolonged enthusiasm for your brand by your users.

In the old days, word of mouth advertising was the type of marketing you could only hope to incite.

However, today if you take strides to viralize your web site today, youre sure to make your customers lips move in the near future.

One simple way to do this is to offer a simple tell a friend method, that not only creates many ‘told’ friends, but also incentifies the ‘teller’ into telling more than just one friend.

People Who Play Word Games

People Who Play Word Games

- By Lance Hemenway

They’re almost everywhere. Hiding within small libraries, or huddled in the dark—frightened of the daylight. -People who play word games; the rare and talented individual who actually delights in the flirtation between language and entertainment. But who are these bizarre people? Why do they play these word oriented games? And are the rest of us in any real danger?

Word games have existed for a long time. Looking for words and phrases in a series of mixed up letters has been with us since civilizations have been able to put pen to papyrus. Anagrams, palindromes, lexigrams, and puns have all found their way into our lives at one time or another. People like being able to engage their minds while being entertained. Of course, there are some people who prefer not to be bothered with “Intellectual stimulation” during their entertainment. -And those people watch “Cops.”

For some time, games like Boggle, or Scrabble, did seem to disappear into the distant haze of our early childhood memories. And it was true, that during the immense growth spurt of the video game industry, puzzle games, in general, officially lost favor with the public nation wide. But in the last few years, with the growing amount of imported board games from countries like Germany, board games have been through a renaissance of sorts. Sales of board games in general, and more specifically, word games, have increased dramatically.

In regards to online gaming, the situation is similar. Downloadable games continue to find their way into almost every household. And it is in this respect that word games have really found their niche. Computer gamers have spent thousands of their free hours online stimulating their little brains till their heart’s content.

For example, the game “Love Letters,” a new title available on Jenkat Games. (www.jenkatgames.com) The game combines the flavor of Scrabble with the framework of your typical video game experience. Released just in time for Valentine’s Day, Love letters allows players to search about in a box of candy hearts, searching for the proper letters to spell words provided them on a list. The farther you proceed, the more words you have to assemble.

Word games are staging a bit of a comeback. And in many ways, they never lost favor at all. Many people have discovered that word games have increased their ability to focus, and concentrate for longer periods of time. Gamers have shown their love for word games in all of its various forms, while game manufactures attempt to feed the growing demand. Word games are not only a big part of gaming as a whole, they are a growing part of video-gaming as well. And that fact doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon.

Lance Hemenway has been writing about free online games for major web publications since 1997. If you want to try your hand at Downloadable games, visit www.Jenkatgames.com.
